Miscellaneous Info
Teaching
I am strongly committed to furthering the statistical knowledge and practical analysis skills of both students and academics. I believe it to be essential to improving both the rigour of social science research generally, and the potential for department members to publish high quality research in the best journals.
I currently teach multivariate statistics modules WP6201 and PSY6010 in semester 1, followed by a 3-day course for both M.Sc Occupational Psychology and M.Res Psychology students in semester 2 in the use of SPSS statistical software to manage and analyse data. I aim to teach the techniques and interpretation first, so they are understood before the complementary but distinct skill of using the software to run analyses is mastered. From 2011/12 I will be running three day-schools in Data Management, Multilevel Modelling and Structural Equation Modelling as part of the Social Science Faculty DTC Advanced Quantitative Methods module for Social Science postgraduate students from Sheffield, Leeds and York.
In addition I offer a Statistics Clinic for postgraduate students from the Sheffield University Management School; this is held every Friday am in my office (114, IWP, Mushroom Lane). Please email me (c.b.stride@sheffield.ac.uk) to make an appointment.
Training and Consultancy
As well as my teaching commitments at the University of Sheffield, I offer a very successful schedule of training courses in advanced statistical techniques (multilevel analysis, structural equation modeling), data management, and the SPSS syntax language, that are open to academics and postgraduate students from the UK, Europe and beyond. These courses are hosted in Sheffield twice a year, and are also available on an inhouse basis. Alongside this I offer statistical consultancy to public and private sector organisations through my training and consultancy arm, Figure It Out.
Media
Chris’s research has been featured in The Times, The Telegraph, The Independent, Yorkshire Post, Sheffield Star, Sheffield Telegraph, and a variety of more specialist publications. He has been interviewed on BBC Radio 5-Live, BBC Radio 6 and numerous local radio stations.
